As One

Our exhibition group focuses primarily on bringing a range of specialisms and project ideas together as one in a final virtual and physical exhibition. We realise that although we have more elements different than similar there are more subtle ideas that connect our projects, whether this is through colour, mediums or underlying ideas. When designing our exhibition spaces we have tried to highlight these similarities to create a unity between our work rather than multiple separate projects. Many of our projects include photography in some way, given this large majority, we have chosen to create a showreel of all our work that will be displayed on a projector throughout the exhibition forming a continuity within our projects and one collective exhibition. Experimenting with type and illustration and realising the importance of grabbing the public’s attention through an eye-catching design. NATURAL STRENGTH

The design of my gym has been influenced by ecology and women’s safety. By using second hand and power generating machines as well as eco-friendly materials and technologies I have reduced the carbon footprint of the old bakery in Bath. I have kept women’s safety in mind through the whole process and managed to create a safe layout by using flower box dividers.

SAVING THE PLANET ONE HOUSE AT A TIME

A NATURE ESCAPE

My work has been influenced by sustainability and Biophilic Design (including nature into the design) to try and aid the planet as well as individual mental well-being by creating a 'Nature Escape' from the city outside. The main aim was to create a space with an abundance of natural light and plants, both inside and outside the building. Materials include cork and recycled wood as well as renewable energy to allow the building to be self-sufficient.

This topic inspired by everyday drawing and everyday life. It tried to argue the ideas of humanity through landscapes and environment [e.g. Acrylic paintings and clay]. The challenging task is combining personal ideas with the artwork. I tried to use different fabric and type to do with acrylic paintings, it presents the change of textures and mark-making. Thus, it would able to understand the logical world and illogical world. Based on each person see their positions, I do not want to talk too much about the artworks. The main point is enjoying the artworks.

GEOMETRIC SHAPES AND MATERIALS

WOODY WOOD

As an interior designer, I think that wood has a big meaning in our life. My installations show how the wood is different in textures, grains, colour. You can see it thanks to linked pieces of wood together. It also presents how such modest wooden installations can blend in and replenish interiors. Wood is a natural material that influences our emotions, feelings, mood, atmosphere. Nowadays, a lot of people are not aware that there are a lot of types of wood, the awareness about these materials is falling off as on the market there are a lot of unnatural materials which are cheaper and change these beautiful and natural materials like wood. In my exhibition, there are presented six types of wood - pine tree, oak tree, cherry tree, walnut tree, larch tree and maple tree. Just look and admire the difference between them.

My concepts for this project are developed based on sustainability and eco-friendliness within a restaurant, as well as how these ideas may affect the surrounding environment. The materials I will be including a lot in my work will be reclaimed materials such as bamboo and cork.

CORONA CHAMELEON

Uno Tempore MMCXXI

My design presents a dystopian future where corona virus is still omnipresent, trying to tackle the virus the government have enforced a mandatory protective uniform. I have achieved this final product through both cotton and vinyl materials, held together with metal buttons, zippers and elastic. My influences have stemmed from the idea of world-building and costume creation to convince an audience that such a world could become a reality. I have also looked at designers such as Kiko Kostadinov and Richard Quinn who focus on ideas of uniform, colour and pattern. Blending these inspirations with my research on spacesuits, wetsuits and medical uniforms I have created both an aesthetically pleasing and functional protective garment.

THINGS LEFT BEHIND

' The Bottoms’ is what is left of a small part of Easton in Gordano, North Somerset, it was abandoned due to a part of the motorway being built and has been left to ruin since. I have memories of walking through these woods as a child feeling like I had discovered a magical place stuck in time. My father and grandfather have both told me stories of people living there and the place is alive. What once was a car is now just a few rusted parts, and what once was cottages, and an old water mill is now just left to be reclaimed by the woodland surrounding it. I wanted to capture it before it was inevitably lost forever.

THE DARK SIDE OF MENTAL HEALTH

My Photographs give an insight into the dark side of mental health and what is not seen behind closed doors. Using lighting I have created photographs that portray emotion and stories behind the dark side of mental health. With references to the book I read for my project 'The Weird and The Eerie By Mark Fisher, I have been able to incorporate the theme of interpretation and something someone sees that perhaps another person doesn't. Some photographers who influenced my work are Trent Parke and Francesca Woodman who use backgrounds carefully and use black and white portraits to focus on emotion and the eerie side of photography. Using this I have created a series of four dramatic and powerful self-portraits showing the struggles of mental health and feeling alone.
