-BACK TO THE FUTURE-

...

Daniella Payne is exploring the development of interior design within her house, through the 1920s, 1980s and current day. Payne is using her house, alongside research, which will allow her to conclude this project with a series of models depicting what her house did and would have looked like in those decades at a 1:25 scale. Payne's aim is to accurately capture not only what it looked like, but also the atmosphere that would have been created in that time. This exploration will further allow her to explore and understand the development of trends within interior design and how previous decades may have influenced trends that are being used currently.

Daniella wanted to incorporate her specialism into her final idea. Daniella is heavily interested in the different decades and what things were popular in those times in many different aspects, however as Daniella was working fully remotely, her house was easily accessible. However the development of her houses interior design from when it was built up until now really interested and continues to interest her.

This was a personal passion of Daniella's as it incorporates both interior design as well as a personal environment of hers that she feels comfortable in. Daniella is also intrigued by choices people make, especially in regards to interior design, and whether it has been influenced by previous decades or anything else.

As one of the decades Daniella is highly interested in is the 1980's, and that era produced a big hit film titled 'Back To The Future' that was widely popular, which explores the idea of making choices at certain times and observing their impact of change on the future. This idea is essentially what Daniella wanted to show how the previous decades impacted her house's interior design now and how it may then impact it in the future. Daniella felt as though both the idea of the film and the title itself, represented her project well and effectively.

Daniella produced a series of three models all at a 1:25 scale, exploring what the interior design consisted of in each of them, as well as how the structure developed over time.

Daniella felt as though these models were fairly accurate depictions of what her house would of and did look like in each of those decades based off of research and information given, as well as using current observation and information from more recently.

The main material used was foam board, that she cut out using a sharp craft knife and stuck together with gorilla glue and toothpicks to attempt to maintain the structural integrity of the models. She then proceeded to paint and use decorative paper and paint mixed with sand and more to create textures etc. and therefore decorate the models.
